Since the Postdoctoral experience is transitional to becoming an independent researcher or faculty member, the Postdoctoral tries their best to acquire the varied skills necessary to advance their career with guidance from the advisor (Dr. Arjen van Vliet). These skills include, but are not limited to, the ability to present research plans and findings in a convincing style, both in oral and written modes of communication, the ability to understand research group management and supervision of others, the ability to establish contacts and network with colleagues pursuing a similar research agenda, the ability to organize and teach a class or a course.

Develop an analysis pipeline for investigating the connection between ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) and astrophysical magnetic fields.

Testing Galactic and extragalactic magnetic field models against UHECR data.

Publishing scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals on related topics.

Presenting research findings at international conferences.

Supervisory Responsibilities


Co-supervising a PhD student and intern students.

Post-Doctoral Associate in the Division of Science, Physics, High-Energy Astrophysics

Job Description


Prof. Joseph Gelfand, of the Division of Science (Physics) and the Center of Astro, Particle, and Planetary Physics (CAP3) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD), seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work in the field of high-energy astrophysics, specifically the study of some of the most extreme and energetic objects in the Universe: neutron stars, the pulsar wind nebulae (PWNe) powered by their rotational energy, and the supernova remnants (SNRs) created in the progenitor supernovae.  The successful applicant would be responsible for the analyzing and interpreting the latest multi-wavelength (primary radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray) observations of these objects, as well as have the opportunity to develop their own projects in this field.  In addition to working in a department with a significant number of PhD-level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students working on a wide array of astronomical projects, they would also be eligible for full participation in SDSS-IV, of which NYU Abu Dhabi is an institutional member, and have access to data collected by the SDSS-V project and sponsored time on observing facilities (e.g., the Las Cumbres Observatory, Green Bank Observatory, and Very Long Baseline Array).


Applicants must have a PhD in physics, astrophysics, astronomy or related field.  Demonstrated experience in reducing radio, X-ray, and/or gamma-ray data is strongly preferred, as is experience with python / IDL / C / C++ programming languages. This is a 3 year position with a preferred start date no later than September 2022.

Postdoctoral Position in Computational Materials Science

Job Description 

The Energy, Water, and Environment (EWE) lab at Prince Sultan University is seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher in the field of computational materials science focused on the atomic scale.


The candidate is expected to have experience in employing ab-initio methods to calculate and interpret different materials properties such as electronic, mechanical, optical, thermal, and magnetic properties for nano materials and extended systems. The candidate should have experience in ab-initio DFT codes (VASP, abinit, etc) in addition to basic scripting and coding skills. The work will be initially focused on energy and hydrogen storage applications. The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with experimentalists.


Requirements:


Recent PhD degree in physics/chemistry/materials science from a reputable institution

Strong background in computational physics/chemistry/materials science

Experience with ab-initio methods and codes, in addition to basic coding and scripting skills under the Linux environment

Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken

Can work independently with a cross-disciplinary team and take responsibility for the progress and quality of the work

Has the ability to work with challenging/complex projects

Motivated and active

Must have published at least 4 papers in reputable journals

The Center for Space Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Research Assistant to work at the Center’s Mars Research Group and assist with our efforts to study the Martian atmosphere with the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) “Hope”.
