About the Department


The Mathematics Department hosts a vibrant community of scholars who actively engage in research and development within rapidly emerging scientific fields. Research in the Mathematics Department is funded by local and international agencies. The department is actively working on setting up and developing modern experimental and computing research facilities. The department offers a BSc in Applied Mathematics and Statistics with two optional concentrations in Financial Mathematics and Mathematical Biology. Students may choose to complete a broad program of study leading to the award of the BSc degree in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, or select one of the two concentrations in order to focus their final year in the program on a particular area of application.


Mathematics Department faculty are members of prestigious worldwide professional organizations such as ACS, AMS, APS, IEEE, MRS, SIAM, AAPT and others, and several are winners of prestigious peer-reviewed research awards. The department is committed to disseminating mathematical knowledge through innovative teaching, excellence in research and friendly learning environment. Assistant Professor - Minimum of 3 years’ experience relevant to the position and proven research potential.

Associate Professor -Minimum of 8 years teaching experience or postgraduate research experience, out of which at least 5 years should be at the level of Assistant Professor.

Professor -Minimum of 10 years teaching and postgraduate research experience, out of which at least 5 years should be at the level of Associate Professor and have demonstrated high standards in teaching, advising, and research.

Preference will be given to candidates with education from and/or previous service in pre-eminent institutions of higher education.  

The successful candidate is expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active research program that leads to peer-reviewed publications in high-impact professional journals, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession.

The United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a new faculty position of Assistant Professor in Data Science. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in mathematics in relevant fields, such as optimization and the mathematical foundations of data science. Preference will be given to a candidate who has in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas including but not limited to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and/or natural language process. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at undergraduate and graduate levels. The module is centred around the use of MyLab Math, and so experience with this digital platform would be an advantage.

You will be based in the UAE or the Gulf region, have excellent English language skills, be educated to Masters degree level (or higher), and have experience of teaching and assessment in Higher Education. You must be passionate about teaching the next generation of DMU graduates.

Job Description

The United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a new faculty position of Assistant Professor in Data Science. Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in mathematics in relevant fields, such as optimization and the mathematical foundations of data science. Preference will be given to a candidate who has in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge in the areas including but not limited to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and/or natural language process. Candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at undergraduate and graduate levels. They should have demonstrable research capabilities to develop and sustain an internally, and/or externally funded research program in Mathematics related to Data Science, and publish their research findings in top-tier referred journals. Candidates should also be willing to actively engage in promoting the growth of the UAE University. The Department views this position as a key step towards building UAE University into one of the top universities in the UAE for data science in undergraduate and graduate training, and in the interdisciplinary and applied research that will attract industrial partners. The application package should include a cover letter, a detailed resume, a brief description of teaching philosophy, a list of courses taught, and three recommendation letters including one at least for research and one for teaching. Minimum Qualification

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Mathematics. The ability to teach undergraduate courses related to Data Science is a must. Industrial and professional experience is a plus.

Preferred Qualification

Postdoctoral experience or teaching and research higher education institutions. Strong communication skills in English.
