To enhance its curriculum in Chemistry and applied interdisciplinary learning and teaching, the School of General Education invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in Chemistry, starting in July 2022 (earlier academic year start date due to the FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar in Nov-Dec 2022).


Your commitment


Reporting to the Department Chair of Sciences, you will plan, develop, and deliver courses in Chemistry, such as General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry, Health Sciences Chemistry, as well as specific higher level Chemistry courses to support new programs of the institution and the School. You will evaluate student progress and manage the resources of the learning environment. In the framework of cross-school collaboration initiatives, you will participate in industry advisory committees and coordinate, manage and control projects within the specified program area. You will keep course portfolio documents required for program review and accreditation processes and engage in instructional development as well as new program development. Qualifications:  


A PhD in Chemistry or a related applied field, from a recognized institution;

A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in higher education, adult training or industry training environment;

Industrial experience as a practitioner/professional within the relevant discipline is welcome.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Marine Biogeochemistry

Description


As part of a major initiative to strengthen its research in Marine Science, the Marine Science Program (MarS) in the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at KAUST is seeking to expand research, higher education and innovations in the field of Marine Biogeochemistry. Applications for a faculty position (Open Rank: Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) are invited from highly competitive candidates eager to pursue innovative research addressing fundamental questions and developing cutting–edge technologies for application in marine systems.


We are especially interested in applications from high-caliber scientists with expertise in Biogeochemistry and biogeochemical cycles in the ocean water column and sediments with particular reference to the coastal and pelagic environments including shallow and deep extreme environments. Successful candidate is expected to develop top-notch research programs on the biogeochemistry of the Red Sea ecosystems including but not limited to coral reefs, seagrass meadows, mangrove forests salt marshes (sabkah) and coastal lagoons also in relation to blue carbon sequestration; additional ecosystems are the Red Sea water column and the extreme ecosystems of the Red Sea, such as stromatolites, brine pools and hydrocarbon vents. The selected candidate is  expected to build a strong teaching program in the Marine Science Program and to establish inter- and multidisciplinary collaborations within the Marine Science Program, the BESE Division and across Divisions, Research Centers and Initiatives at KAUST.


Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Marine Science, Biological Science, or related fields, as well as a strong publication record in the top-tier venues of their respective areas. Preference will be given to candidates who can take advantage of KAUST’s unique access to the Red Sea that may serve as a “natural laboratory” for marine biogeochemistry studies in extreme seas, as its present-day conditions (with elevated temperature, salinity and oligotrophy) mirror future conditions in other seas under anticipated climate change scenarios.

The Bioengineering Program in the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE) Division at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) aims at expanding research and higher education in Synthetic Biology, and at harnessing innovations in this field to create a more sustainable economy and address grand challenges. The program is inviting applications for a faculty position (Open Rank: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) in the broad area of Synthetic Biology, including but not restricted to one or more of these research areas:


Chassis or host engineering: research interests involving cell-free systems capable of natural and non-natural reactions, on-demand production of single-cell hosts, and generating biomes or consortia with desired functions.


Biomolecular engineering: research interests involving on-demand design, generation, and evolution of macromolecules for desired functions, including natural and unnatural macromolecules, circuits, and pathway engineering.

Industrial and professional experience is a plus. Good interpersonal and English oral and written communication skills are required, as is the ability to work with others in a diverse collegial team atmosphere.


Preferred Qualification


Candidates with a degree in veterinary medicine or comparable professional degree with documented accomplishments in teaching, research, and service are preferred. Additional qualifications of innovative and dynamic teaching or other professional skills relevant to a faculty role are desirable. Other evidence of working in One Health-related teaching and/or research especially in the Middle East and North Africa region as well as engagement in international-quality research, with publications and other participation in research activities commensurate with stage of career as well as a track record of securing research funding. Experience with AVMA accreditation requirements, and knowledge of innovative curriculum development and implementation is a plus.
