Qualifications


We welcome candidates with a PhD in Computer Science and/or Engineering, Informatics, or related areas, with a strong background in the theory and practice of one or more of : Security/Privacy and/or Dependability/Fault-Tolerance of Distributed Systems and Networks and/or Real-Time and Embedded Systems.


We expect documented experience about systems knowledge of one or more of: cloud/Internet computing and communication; peer-to-peer (P2P) infrastructures; blockchain and ledger technology; cyber-physical and Internet-of-Things systems (CPS, IoT); software-defined and/or vehicular networking (SDN, VN); digital health technologies.


We consider as an advantage – all relevant research sub-areas of the above being contemplated – documented research experience in design, verification, and/or evaluation, in the following sub-areas: dependable and/or secure distributed systems and networks; trusted computing and execution environments; threat and intrusion detection/prevention systems; dependable and/or secure distributed blockchain and ledger systems; privacy of biomedical, financial or social data.


Applicants should show exceptional research merit, including strong publication record in top-tier conferences and journals, as well as research projects experience. Postdoctoral Position in Computational Materials Science

Description:

The Energy, Water, and Environment (EWE) lab at Prince Sultan University is seeking a talented postdoctoral researcher in the field of computational materials science focused on the atomic scale.


The candidate is expected to have experience in employing ab-initio methods to calculate and interpret different materials properties such as electronic, mechanical, optical, thermal, and magnetic properties for nano materials and extended systems. The candidate should have experience in ab-initio DFT codes (VASP, abinit, etc) in addition to basic scripting and coding skills. The work will be initially focused on energy and hydrogen storage applications. The candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with experimentalists.


Requirements:


Recent PhD degree in physics/chemistry/materials science from a reputable institution

Strong background in computational physics/chemistry/materials science

To maintain and contribute to the development of multiple code bases written in C++, Python, and MATLAB. The code runs on physical robotics hardware, as well as simulation. Many researchers improve on existing algorithms, and contribute to the existing code base. Such evolution of the code base needs to be managed properly to maintain quality such that it is accessable to human coders, portable across platforms, and ready to keep evolving.

In summary, it is expected that the candidate would work on the following tasks:

  1. Understand program logic, and robotic context to be able to reason about software architecture.
  2. Integrate and test custom robot control code written by engineers and scientists who develop algorithms in C++/Python.
  3. Migrate existing code to a variety of computer hardware.
  4. To frequently upgrade code base to the latest robotics hardware while ensuring smooth transition with minimal impact on research activities.
  5. Run machine learning algorithms on high performance computers using common machine learning packages like TensorFlow and Keras.
  6. Write experimental procedure and validate developed algorithms practically.

As the code base evolves, and the research results mature, it is expected that the candidate would:

  1. Develop UI dashboards to be interfaced with robots.
  2. Expose algorithms to other international researchers through RESTful API or similar mechanisms for reproduction of results.

Research Engineer in the Center for Cyber Security

Job Description


The Center for Cyber Security at New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a Research Engineer to work on disinformation and security aspects related to it. Online misinformation and disinformation (aka “Fake News”) has taken on an increasing global significance in recent years. The spread and application of such content can have disastrous consequences in the real world, such as influence on socio political events (e.g., elections), spread of diseases (e.g., due to parents choosing not to vaccinate children), violence, discrimination (e.g., targeting of specific religions such as Islam), and so on. A great deal of such content is seeded and/or spread and/or amplified by malicious individual or state actors, often with the use of bots. As such, investigating and tackling this problem requires a sociotechnical and multidisciplinary approach that considers not only threat models and security considerations but also improved user interfaces and experiences, increased information literacy, informed public policy, etc.


The successful applicant will work on interdisciplinary sociotechnical research that to detect and reduce the spread and influence of online misinformation and disinformation. To that end, the research may involved applying a number of approaches, including but not limited to: machine learning, user interface design, building and evaluating prototypes of novel solutions, online surveys and experiments, etc. The research will also incorporate an investigation of cultural influences, with a specific focus on the context of the populations in the Middle East / North Africa (MENA) region. We expect the results to be published in top-tier journals and conferences in security and human computer interactions (e.g., IEEE S&P, Usenix Security, CCS, NDSS, CHI, CSCW, SOUPS, WWW, etc.). The Research Engineer will be supervised by Prof. Nasir Memon (NYU, NYU Abu Dhabi). Collaborators on the project include Mustaque Ahamad (Georgia Tech) and Prof. Sameer Patil  (University of Utah).


Applicants for the Research Engineer position must have BS in Computer Engineering or related discipline. Excellent experimental skills relevant to the project are required.
