The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the United Arab Emirates University invites applications for a faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level beginning Fall 2020 (or Spring 2020). The area of interest is aerospace dynamics and control. Candidates must have a PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from a highly ranked institution. The selected candidate should have significant research contributions, will be able to attract competitive external research funding, and will have the potentials for quality teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in mechanical / aerospace engineering. The candidate will be expected to conduct research and to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the following areas: aerospace control, aerospace dynamic system modeling and simulation and mechanical vibrations.


Minimum Qualification


Applicants must have an earned doctorate in a topic related to aerospace dynamics and control. The ability to teach undergraduate courses is a must. Industrial and professional experience is a plus.


Preferred Qualification


The preferred candidate should have a teaching experience in the field of aerospace dynamics and control, and preferably can also teach mechatronics, robotics and automation and have an excellent publications in reputed international journals.

The Division of Science at NYU Abu Dhabi invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track, open-rank faculty position jointly within its Physics and Chemistry Programs in the area of soft matter. We particularly welcome applications from women as well as members of traditionally underrepresented groups. As part of a major multi-year growth plan, the general area of soft matter is of particular interest to us, and we invite applicants leading experimental or theoretical research programs. Faculty in the Chemistry and Physics Programs contribute to multidisciplinary research at NYU Abu Dhabi, and are currently working with faculty from other programs in areas that include materials, drug discovery and delivery, biological physics, and computer modelling.


Successful candidates will receive a generous start-up package as well as renewable research funding to hire research assistants and postdocs, and will also have access to internal funding. Faculty have access to state-of-the-art core technology platforms that include (1) a fully equipped microscopy facility that houses confocal and stimulated emission depletion (STED) super-resolution microscopes, scanning and transmission electron and atomic force microscopes, and combined confocal Raman atomic force resolution and scanning near-field optical microscopy (AFM SNOM); (2) protein expression and purification facilities; (3) advanced DNA sequencing facilities; (4) equipment for spectroscopic, thermal and chemical analysis, including nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectrometers; and (5) high-performance computing facilities with more than 12,000 CPU computing cores and 14 GPU nodes with a peak performance of approximately 400 TFLOPS. Strategic Responsibilities


The Emirates Nuclear Technology Center at Khalifa University is searching for a post-doctoral Research Associate (RA) to participate in a project conducting a safety analysis of design basis accident and design extension condition against experimental data from OECD-ATLAS project. This project is taking a thermal hydraulic analysis and a computational approach via lump code such as RELAP5/TRACE and CFD code such as ANSYS/STAR-CCM+ as well as a thermal-hydraulic experiment. Particular emphasis is for candidates with a background and interest in generating an input of safety analysis code and developing safety analysis code by implementing new models with the V&V procedure and conducting T-H experiments via designing and building test rig and measuring/analyzing data.


This is a two-year appointment (can be expended up to five years) at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The position is within the area of Thermal-hydraulics, Safety analysis, System design of Nuclear Power plant. The Center for Space Sciences at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications for a Research Associate position in physics and astrophysics, for a minimum period of one year, with a possibility of extension.


The following topics have been identified: (1) Performing research in computational helioseismology and contributing to the establishment of a Data Center at NYUAD that will acquire, archive, manage and process selected scientific data sets from space missions; (2) Inferring flows in the solar interior using helioseismology and modelling sources of systematic errors in seismic measurements. Applicants should be able to analyze observations of the Sun (specifically those taken by the MDI and HMI instruments); (3) Performing numerical simulations and developing the theory of convection and magnetism in the Sun and stars with a specific focus to develop an understanding of large-scale convection and elucidating the physical mechanisms governing the solar dynamo, differential rotation and meridional circulation; and (4) Theoretical exploration of exoplanets, including, but not limited to, star-planet interactions, evolution, interior convection, and atmospheric dynamics.


Researchers with a PhD and 5 year's post-doctoral experience in Astrophysics or related discipline are encouraged to apply. All successful candidates are expected to work with the Principal Investigator of the Center, Professor K.R. Sreenivasan and Co-Principal Investigators, Professors Ian Dobbs-Dixon, Laurent Gizon and Shravan Hanasoge. The anticipated appointment is expected to start, preferably, on December 1, 2021.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION    


The department invites applications for faculty positions in all ranks (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professors) and in any discipline relevant to Aerospace Engineering. While exceptional candidates in any discipline relevant to aerospace engineering are sought, particular emphasis is for top candidates with background in one or more of the following areas: spacecraft design and space mission analysis, space systems and technologies, spacecraft attitude dynamics and control, astronautics, experimental and/or computational aerodynamics, atmospheric flight dynamics, aerospace design, and aerospace structures and materials.


The candidate is expected to have a strong research potential, demonstrated by relevant publications in high-impact journals, and teaching experience in above mentioned areas. The candidate must possess excellent communication skills.


Successful candidates are expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain active research programs that lead to peer-reviewed publications in high-impact professional journals, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession.

Successful candidates are also expected to be involved in thematic research within one or more of the university research priority areas.

PhD Scholarship Related to Mars Science at NSSTC

Job Description

The National Space Science and Technology Center (NSSTC) invites applications from enthusiastic, ambitious, and hard-working Emirati nationals for a graduate scholarship leading to a PhD related to Mars Science, to start in Spring or Fall 2022. Supervision of the PhD thesis will be done jointly between NSSTC and a partnering University Department (Geography, Geology, Physics, etc.). Applications for entry in Spring 2022 must be submitted as soon as possible. For entry in Fall 2021, applications must be submitted by 30 November 2021, and we will look favourably on applicants willing to join NSSTC as a Research Assistant from January 2022, to bridge the gap until the start of the PhD program. The PhD project is linked to the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM), which arrived at Mars in early 2021. The area of study will be "Building and analysing comprehensive Mars dust storm databases from 1 Martian Year of EMM observations". This project would suit a person with pronounced interest and a study background in remote sensing (both satellite imagery and quantitative data) and atmospheric and planetary science. With the imminent arrival of EMM at Mars, NSSTC is very keen to recruit Emirati nationals as PhD students in this area. The task of this PhD project is to build a dust storm database spanning at least 1 Martian Year (1 Martian Year is ca. 1.9 Earth Years) based on EMM. The database construction will start with the beginning of the EMM Science phase, scheduled for early-to-mid 2021. The basis of this database will be images by the EMM instrument EXI (Emirates Exploration Imager). The combination with quantitative data on the dust optical depth, atmospheric temperature, etc. from the EMM instruments EXI and EMIRS (Emirates Mars Infrared Spectrometer) is possible. A particular challenge is the fact that EMM will map dust storms each few hours or, equivalently, several times per day. This implies that the database has to be updated on a sub-daily basis. Likewise, this makes the database unique from existing dust storm databases. An integral part will be the subsequent statistical/mathematical analysis of dust storm characteristics such as source region, storm track and size, timing and duration, etc. The student will join the EMM science team and work alongside Emirati and international scientists to achieve the project goals. Strategic Responsibilities

The Emirates Nuclear Technology Center at Khalifa University is searching for a postdoctoral Research Associate (RA) to participate in a project conducting a safety analysis of design basis accident and design extension condition against experimental data from OECD-ATLAS project. This project is taking a thermal hydraulic analysis and a computational approach via lump code such as RELAP5/TRACE and CFD code such as ANSYS/STAR-CCM+ as well as a thermal-hydraulic experiment. Particular emphasis is for candidates with a background and interest in generating an input of safety analysis code and developing safety analysis code by implementing new models with the V&V procedure and conducting T-H experiments via designing and building test rig and measuring/analyzing data.

This is a two-year appointment (can be expended up to five years) at Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The position is within the area of Thermal-hydraulics, Safety analysis, System design of Nuclear Power plant. Operational Responsibilities

  • Work within a multi-university, multi-campus collaboration to investigate thermo-hydraulic phenomena through OECD-ATLAS project.
  • Generate transient input deck for RELAP5 and TRACE for relevant topics in ATLAS project.
  • Revise and upgrade input deck for APR1400-KU.
  • Simulate local phenomena in ATLAS test facility via ANSYS/STAR-CCM+.
  • Produce training materials for SNAP, RELAP5, TRACE, and ANSYS/STAR-CCM+.
  • Work closely with and contribute to the training of graduate students working with the project.
  • Conduct a thermal-hydraulic experiment via designing, building test rig and measuring data.
