Job Description


The Social Science Experimental Laboratory (SSEL), New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral researcher. The ideal candidate is ambitious, well-trained, self-motivated, hard-working, equally capable of working alone and as part of a team, and holds a PhD in economics or a related field. The position requires expertise in experimental methods. Previous experience conducting social science experimental research (either lab, lab-in-the-field, online, and/or field) is essential. Excellent communication skills in English, scientific creativity, and the desire to work in multidisciplinary teams are also essential.


The successful applicant is expected to publish research in leading peer-reviewed journals in social science (i.e., economics, political science or sociology) or in leading interdisciplinary journals. The position holder is expected to dedicate up to 20% of their time to lab-related tasks and to participate in research collaborations with faculty affiliated with the SSEL. The position holder will join an exceptionally vibrant community of economists, sociologists, and political scientists, doing cutting-age research, exploring the foundations of human behavior, using experimental methods.


The position provides a salary higher than internationally competitive rates for postdoctoral research positions, in addition to substantial benefits (generous housing, transportation and travel allowances, educational subsidies for children), together with full health insurance and retirement contributions. The UAE does not levy income tax.


Appointments will be for two years, renewable for at least an additional year conditional on a satisfactory evaluation of performance.

Duties & Responsibilities         

        

Department Profile:


The Department of Humanities at Qatar University, Doha, invites applications for a full time position at the level of Teaching Assistant in GIS and RS to begin August 2022. The position is three years renewable. Primary responsibilities will include developing and teaching classroom-based and online courses in GIS, RS, and geospatial data science with demonstrated teaching excellence and a commitment to scholarship. 


Candidates should be committed to excellence in teaching. Candidates must have a Master’s degree in GIS and RS. The topical areas of interest are broad and include GIS applications in coastal management, petroleum, transportation, and urban and regional planning among others. Preference will be given to candidates who have a track record of excellent publication and possess the potential and willingness to collaborate with faculty within and across departmental divisions. Priority will be given to candidates who fluent in both Arabic and English.


Duties& Responsibilities:


Assist to teach a range of GIS and RS courses

Supervising students at GIS and RS labs.

Assist and collaborate with course instructors as assigned by Department Head

Contribute to the development of new Remote Sensing and GIS courses/programs/research centers.

Assist Department Head in various tasks as assigned.

Monitor the academic performance of undergraduate students.

May be affiliated to Research Centers/Research Units at College level or University level

Competencies: 


Specialized in GIS and RS, and solid knowledge in related discipline at the under graduate level.

Experience in teaching at the undergraduate level.

Qualifications:

This position requires a PhD in either or a combination of the following fields: Cultural Theory, Anthropology and Ethnography, Migration and Human Geographies. Fluency in Arabic and other languages is strongly desired.
